I’ve interviewed hundreds of internationally renowned musicians, actors, directors, authors, comedians, celebrity chefs, sportspeople, and, of course, multitudes of everyday souls with a story to tell often more interesting than any A-lister. Here’s just a few I remember best.
I’ve been inflicting my opinions on the general public for as long as editors have been prepared to print them.
I’ve written press releases for international tech firms Philips and Bang & Olufsen, coordinated media coverage for epic industry events MIPIM Asia and the Internet Economy Summit, penned formal programme notes for Hong Kong Arts Festival, The Arts Center at NYUAD Abu Dhabi, UMS and HKPhil, and managed PR for comedy promoters The Laughter Factory and HK indie music fest The Week.
I’ve written about film for broadsheets including The National, South China Morning Post, Arab News, China Daily, and once edited the Middle Eastern film coverage for Time Out, contributing to the brand’s global network of titles from Los Angeles to Shanghai.
My first calling? Think pieces and chinstrokers, for The National and others, since 2014 to today.
East Asia correspondent for America’s leading industry paper Travel Weekly, I’ve also contributed long-form travel features for newspapers The National, Arab News and Eastern Daily Press; magazines Etihad’s Atlas, Jumeirah Magazine and P&O Moments; and supplied city guides to various Time Out titles across the globe.
Sometimes I use a pseudonym. Don’t ask why.
Because sometimes, the only way to say it, is with a chin-stroking personal column.
